Very reliable

My camera is slightly different as it's older but I am very impressed with Nikon. It has lasted 2.5 years and is very sturdy. Pictures can be a bit blurry and the flash is a bit strong but I've got some lovely pictures and I don't ever worry about handling it with kid gloves. I would definitely recommend this, it's easy to use and has lots of lovely features, the firework mode and colour options are amazing.
Good Family Snapper

We bought this camera whilst on holiday to replace an elderly 2.1mp coolpix 775. To be honest, the choice in the shop was rubbish, and we bought the camera because it was the only high mp camera at a price we could afford.
To get the negative points over, my gripes are... LCD screen only means that battery life is not as good as the old one - I used to use the viewfinder for taking photos and the screen for reviewing them at the end of the day. I also agree with other reviewers that the screen is not easy to see in bright sunlight. The shutter lag infuriates my wife - she is frequently moaning that the camera doesn't take the photo as she presses the button, but momentarily after - for some reason thet's all my fault. in low light, the pictures are very grainy [high iso setting?] or you get camera shake - that though is a problem with inexperience rather than a bad camera - I have made no attempt to learn how to use manual to it's full effect.
positively - the quality of the shots is excellent, and on fully auto, all the family can use the camera and take excellent photographs. The build quality is good - the camera has a metal body and feels solid and well constructed. It's size means it can easily be carried without being cumbersome.
This is an ideal low cost camera if you are looking to take "snaps", but not for more serious photography - though I guess you you'll be looking at a DSLR for that!

My husband bought this camera for a present in August, off Amazon, We were going on a cruise up to the North Cape. I am so pleased with this camera, my first digital camera, I took over 600 photos on holiday of Norway and I think the quality is excellent, colour, crispness of images. All my photos came out well. I am over the moon with this camera, my husband also thought it was great. He has a Canon EOS 350D. The macro lens is excellent as well. My only gripe is you can't see the screen very well in bright sun light. Otherwise this camera is a very good buy in my opinion.
A Good pocket camera

First off the camera is small and fits nicely into my shirt pocket. This is one of primary reasons I bought this one over any other. I found Menus clear and simple and operation to be very easy.
But....Although large and clear, I found the LCD display difficult to view in bright light conditions. The pictures I took in all conditions are noisy, but having said that they look good when printed at 6"x4". Quality seems to improve when using one of the dedicated modes...Portrait, Landscape, night time etc...
One final point: The macro mode is great. The focus is sharp, the colours are well saturated and you can achieve a very shallow Depth of Field.
Overall, for the £100ish pounds I spent I am a happy customer.
Nikon versus Canon

I couldn't decide whether to buy the Nikon Coolpix S200 or the Canon Ixus 75. At first I bought the Canon, but I found some of the pictures to be a bit too dark. So I then tried the Nikon. The Nikon has some useful features which the Canon doesn't have - the Nikon shows how many photos you have left on the memory card, which the Canon doesn't do. Also, I found the Nikon photos to be slightly brighter than the Canon. However, the Nikon does have some drawbacks - it only focuses on what's in the centre of the frame. So if you want to focus on something off-centre, you have to use focus lock. Also, the LCD screen on the Nikon is difficult to see in bright sunlight, and the movie quality is OK but not great.
Overall, I would say that the Canon is a slightly better camera. The Canon has a 9 point focussing system, so you don't have to use focus lock for things off-centre. Plus the Canon LCD screen can be seen OK in bright sunlight, and it has good movie quality. The only drawback with the Canon is that some photos are a bit too dark. But if you get them printed with Photobox or Boots, they will correct this automatically and the printed photos will be brighter. So I've decided to stick with the Canon.
